For the up-coming friendly international against Denmark in Copenhagen on Wednesday, 11.08.2010, German national team trainer Joachim Löw has nominated three Werder players. Tim Wiese, Marko Marin and the re-called Aaron Hunt are in the DFB squad. On an agreement between Werder and the German Football Federation (DFB), neither Mesut Özil nor Per Mertesacker will join up with the national team on this occasion.
Although Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf would much prefer to have his three nominated men continually with the Green-Whites team during their pre-season preparations, he took the time to comment on his discussions with the DFB: "We came to an agreement in the past few weeks and telephoned one final time. The nomination of these three players is the result of those conversations. The nomination is okay for us – that’s fine! Naturally both sides are aware that this friendly appointment is unfavourable both for the clubs as well as for the national team."
Schaaf also had plenty of praise for Aaron Hunt because of the form he has presented himself in thus far: "He was involved in the complete pre-season preparations. The whole point was to ensure that none of the players are over-strained, but we were able to recommend Aaron. His fitness is at a good level, he has dealt with everything here well and he has taken it all in his stride." Aaron Hunt himself agrees: "Of course I’m happy about it. I hope to get the chance to play, I feel good. I’m sure the game won’t interrupt our Champions League qualification preparations. I’ll only be away for three days."
