On Friday, 06.08.2010, all of the Green-Whites will be focused on Nyon. At 12 pm in Switzerland, the draw will be made for the pairings for the Champions League qualifiers.

In the draw, Werder, who will be represented, amongst others, by Frank Baumann, as assistant to the board, could well be faced by a formidable opponent in their bid to move into the Champions League proper. Renowned Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev and Italian first division club Sampdoria Genoa, are in the hat, as are AJ Auxerre from France and Sporting Braga, who proved the surprise package in Portugal last season. There is also a Swiss team among the possible opponents in the form of Young Boys Bern – a side not to be underestimated!

In the previous round, the Swiss team dumped Turkish top club Fenerbahce Istanbul out of the competition. Werder coach Thomas Schaaf pulled no punches on Thursday, in stating: "The opponent is of little significance. Every team in this round of the competition has qualified sportingly. That will always make it a difficult task."

It’s not just the name of the opponent that is being eagerly awaited, but also the result of the draw for who will have home or away advantage in the first leg interests the Green-Whites. The reconstruction at the ‘Weser Stadion’ is in full swing and any extra time which could be won would be extremely valuable. Executive manager Klaus Filbry emphasised: "The stadium re-construction is a very complex project, with the work being performed under extreme pressure. If we should have to play at home first, we will need to find a very creative solution. Having an extra week would be very helpful. We will have to work with provisional measures, especially in the area of the VIP places, the hospitality area and in the team wing."

The team will hear the result of the draw shortly before they board their flight to London on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, 07.08.2010, Werder will play a friendly game against FC Fulham. There is no question about the main topic of conversation on board.
