Werder’s German international Mesut Özil did not participate in German training at the World Cup. He had been complaining about minor muscle problems. The break is less about a serious injury but purely a "precautionary measure" according to the German federation DFB.
Özil has played a major role in helping the German national team to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in South Africa. Even captain Philipp Lahm was full of praise for the Bremen midfielder. "We haven’t had a played like him in a long time," said Lahm. German team manager Oliver Bierhoff explained Özil’s missing training as a regenerative measure. But he is not at all a question mark for the quarter-final against Argentina on 3 July 2010 at 4 p.m. in Cape Town.
