Qualification for the Europa League next season is all but certain after reaching the German Cup final. But instead of sitting back and relaxing, the Green-Whites want to really make a push forward. The entire team is looking to challenge for third place, which would mean a spot in the Champions League qualification. "Even though it will be difficult, I think it's possible. Through the elimination in the Europa League we will be fresher for the end of the season," said Claudio Pizarro.

Mesut Özil has also not given up the dream of the Champions League. "We have to truly believe and do everything we can for it. We still have quite a few games ahead of us. And everyone knows that almost anything can happen in football," said Özil. Even members of Werder's defence are ready for the fight. Per Mertesacker is not worried about the eight-point deficit to third place. "We are close. We can still move quite a bit this season," said the centre back. "We went to win everything we can in the Bundesliga and in the end we will see if it's enough," added keeper Tim Wiese.
