Werder striker Hugo Almeida scored his eighth goal for Portugal in playing a big role in the Portuguese 2-0 victory over China. After some selfless set-up work by Cristiano Ronaldo, the 25-year-old Bremen attacker opened the scoring from 11 yards to make it 1-0 after 36 minutes. The final highlight of the game was supplied by substitute Liedson in stoppage time of a generally weak match. Portugal national team coach Carlos Queiroz subbed out seven players in all though Almedia played the entire match.

Sebastian Prödl and the Austrian national team beat Denmark 2-1. The 22-year-old Prödl, who was a late nominee by national team coach Dietmar Constantini, was brought into the game after 64 minutes for Aleksandar Dragovic. But there was no direct showdown with Bremen teammate Daniel Jensen as the 30-year-old was subbed out after 57 minutes in favour of Christian Eriksen.

Hungary’s U21 national team with Werder youth talent Marko Futacs had to accept a 2-0 defeat against Italy. The Bremen attacker started for Hungary and played the entire match. With the loss, Hungary dropped below Italy into third place in the U21 European Championship qualification group.
