Thomas Schaaf's Werder Bremen beat Arab side Al Ain 2-1 (2-0) with Claudio Pizarro scoring two goals. After a lacklustre start, Werder began taking over the game midway through the first half. Bremen jumped ahead on a fine goal by Pizarro in the 41st minute. The Peruvian doubled the lead just three minutes later with a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the area, overcoming Al Ain keeper Sultan Mussabeh. Werder defended their advantage in the second half and missed a chance to finish off the game with a counter attack. And the hosts cut the lead in half at the hour mark through Abd Al Aziz Fayez. Werder were lucky to hold their slim lead until the end as Emirson struck the crossbar. In the end, Werder were winners of the golden trophy as the so-called Super Cup winners.
