Whenever long-time business partners switch their ancestral position, it is common courtesy to send some warm regards. And that was the case at Thursday's Green-White press conference. Despite an up-coming game against the reigning German champions Wolfsburg, the out-going manager of Bayern Munich of course was a topic of questions as Uli Hoeneß likely served his last game as manager on Wednesday evening in the Champions League. "It is too bad. Uli Hoeneß was a real integral part of the Bundesliga in this position," laughed Bremen manager Klaus Allofs, who also praised the contact between the two of the past years. "Our collaboration featured all facets. We even argued with one another, but it was almost always are friendly, fair co-operation."

About the still-Bayern manager, head coach Thomas Schaaf said. "Uli Hoeneß is one of the most significant people in the league. I agree with the words of Klaus Allofs and wish him all the best."

Uli Hoeneß is expected to be elected to club president and executive chairman at Bayern Munich's annual general meeting Friday night. In doing so, he would be taking over the posts of Franz Beckenbauer. Hoeneß was manager of the German record champions Bayern for 30 years. Numerous times in past years, he sat at the negotiating table with Klaus Allofs regarding transfers between Werder and Bayern Munich. Five players have swapped jerseys of the two top clubs in the last ten years: Claudio Pizarro, Torsten Frings, Tim Borowski, Valerien Ismael, Miroslav Klose.
