The decision if Werder player Sebastian Boenisch will play in the future for the German or the Polish national team has been put on hold indefinitely. The 22-year-old will participate in team training for Werder Bremen this week and will not be added to the Polish national team roster for the next two international friendlies. That was the result of talks Monday morning between Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs and the defender. "We have known of the interest from the Polish federation for some time and know that Sebastian feels very honoured. Due to his heritage, a switch would be an option. But we agreed that this important decision should not be made under time pressure. The next goal for Poland is the European Championship in their own country in three years. Until then they will only be playing test matches. That gives Sebastian enough chances to take in all impressions and calmly make a decision," Klaus Allofs told Polish media representatives on Monday.
Sebastian Boenisch is very pleased with the results of the talks. "They were very open and very good talks with the national team coach and Klaus Allofs. Of course the interest of the federation is always very appealing. But it doesn't make any sense to decide right now. My main focus has to be remaining with Werder Bremen. I have to really work hard on myself and continue to improve myself. Everything else will take care of itself in time," said Boenisch.
