After 86 minutes of Finland's match against Wales it was clear for Petri Pasanen that his World Cup qualification campaign was over. The Werder defender picked up his second yellow card in the qualification and therefore is suspended for Finland's final qualifier against Germany.
Minimal goal achieved
Pasanen returned prematurely to Bremen and has trained with the Green-Whites since Monday. "Of course I would have liked to have played against Germany," said the 29-year-old about the game which means very little in the qualification standings. Pasanen, however, did say his nation had reached their minimum goal for the final two qualifiers with a 2-1 victory over Wales to secure third place. "We wanted to shore up third place in the group to get into the third draw pot for the next Euro qualifiers. And we did that," said the Finn, who added: "I am happy that the qualification is over with now. Starting now, all my thoughts are on Werder."
