Investigations which were called for by the supervisory board of Werder Bremen and Co. LtD. will continue this week into past transfer practices by the club. An independent accounting firm will be looking especially at the accounts regarding the acquisition of Peruvian striker Roberto Silva in 2001.

It is in connection with this transfer that payments were suspected to have been made to the former board of directors chairman Jürgen L. Born. "We ask for your understanding that neither the board of directors nor the auditors can comment on the status of the investigation. We would like to wait until the end of the investigation," said Klaus Allofs, who took over as acting board chairman after the resignation of Jürgen Born.

Jürgen L. Born returned to Bremen from South America on Thursday night and made the following statement: "I have already explained that I did not receive any payments at the expense of Werder Bremen. In addition, I will not make any public comment as long as the investigation is on-going. But of course, I am making myself available to the auditor." According to supervisory board chairman Willi Lemke, a final report on the complete investigation is not expected before early May.
