Headcoach Thomas Schaaf could only call upon the services of five Bundesliga professionals for Wednesdays training session. Goalkeepers Pascal Borel and Andreas Reinke were joined by Aaron Hunt, Johan Micoud and Valerien Ismael were shooting practice was the order of the day. The training session was padded out by the attendance of several players from Werders amateur side including captain Björn Schierenbeck.

Individual training sessions were undertaken by Paul Stalteri (slight knee problem) and Frank Baumann (leg injury). Thomas Schaaf is apprenhensive about the return of his two latest injury worries: "We are controlling the improvements day-by-day and we'll decide spontaneously. I expect them to return to full team training by Monday at the latest."
