In just three days AC Milan will face off with Werder Bremen in the first leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 32 showdown. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti's team will be coming to northern Germany with a bitter setback in the back of their minds. On Sunday, the Rossoneri lost the 269th city derby against arch rivals Inter Milan 2-1.
Superstar David Beckham could not continue his superb recent form and was substituted out in the 57th minute. But the worst news of the weekend came out of Los Angeles as the Major League Soccer-set deadline for a better offer for a buy-out of the English star had passed. Los Angeles Galaxy manager and coach Bruce Arena said: "MLS commissioner Don Garber set February 13th as the deadline for Beckham's transfer to AC Milan. Now time is up and we haven't received a satisfactory offer from AC Milan."
It seems that Beckham's enthusiasm will help very little despite "Becks" telling the Italian daily Gazzeta dello Sport late last week: "I have nothing against the Galaxy. I had some great times in Los Angeles. But I met some great players in Milan who really helped me." Regardless, AC Milan registered Beckham for their UEFA Cup roster a few weeks ago.
