Last year’s winner of the ‘Player of the Season’ award was voted into third place this time around. In the poll which is voted on by the ‘Federation of Professional Footballer’s’ (VDV), which comprises all players in Germanys top four divisions, a total of 7,1% cast their ballot in favour of the Werder man.

The Brazilian international, who last year took the award with a whopping 50,7%, had to make way this year for FC Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery, who won the award with 37,3% of the votes cast, and his team mate Luca Toni, who came second, with 19,3%

Diego was followed in the pecking order by Bayer Leverkusen’s young goalkeeper Rene Adler (4,5%) and retiring Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn (3,7%).
