Werder Bremen notched up a 3-1 win in their final friendly game of the year against fifth division 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The crowd of 13,000 at the ‘Zentralstadion’ was treated to an entertaining game of football in which Fritz (12’), Almeida (60’) and Bargfrede (88’) were on target for the Green-Whites. Leipzig’s only goal of the game was scored in the 51st minute by Engler. Werder keeper Vander also saved a penalty in the 62nd minute to prevent the home side levelling for a second time on the night.
At the end of an entertaining evening of sport, the football hungry Leipzig fans were proud of the performance of their side and displayed their appreciation with prolonged and vociferous cheering for the ‘Oberliga’ team. Werder got to see Diego back in action for 45 minutes but, on the whole, were disappointed with their performance on the evening.
