It is a real rarity to experience a competitive game after which everyone heads home satisfied but the DFB Cup match in Nordhorn was one of those exceptional games. The Werder fans went home happily having seen their side scoring nine goals whilst the Eintracht supporters got to enjoy an entertaining afternoon’s football and three goals for the rank underdogs. The hosts were able to provide the spectators with twelve goals in all, some fantastic weather and a perfectly organised event.
“It was simply a wonderful afternoon’s football. The fact that 9,000 spectators turned up here to see a fifth division side speaks volumes about German football,” noted Sebastian Prödl, who experienced a lot during the European Championships but who was playing in his first ever DFB Cup match, and he was quite satisfied: “You can always find something to criticise. We could have scored a couple of more goals up forward and at the back we should not have conceded three but those are just the finer details which we can continue to work on.”
Aaron Hunt had a similar opinion: “On the whole we can consider ourselves to be quite satisfied. We wanted to set things straight from the outset and we managed to do that. With a 4:1 lead going into the break, the game was already decided. Our switching from defence to attack and from attack back to defence needs to be better, but we still have a few days to work on that.”
