Cup semi-finalists, fifth in the league and, to put the icing on the cake, European cup winners too – in Nordhorn there was plenty to be celebrated in early summer! HSG Nordhorn went from strength to strength on the handball court. The indoor sport has long since left football trailing in its wake in the south west of Lower Saxony - which makes this up-coming cup tie a fantastic opportunity for Eintracht!! On Saturday, 09.08.2008, at 3:30pm, Werder Bremen will be guests at the stadium on ‘Heideweg’. Thanks to the game against the Bundesliga runner-up, the football team can claim some attention in the small city populated by 50,000 citizens. Optimistically they are dreaming of a sensational DFB Cup upset to have the whole country taking about Eintracht.
Naturally that shouldn’t be an issue on Saturday, although Werder do know they will be faced by a highly motivated side who will be just waiting to take their chance: “They have a squad of players who want to get involved in the game and try to do something on their own steam,” warned Thomas Schaaf, who had his opponents observed during their pre-season preparations: “Eintracht have players in their ranks with the technical ability and pace to get things moving.” And what exactly do they wish to get moving? The Green-Whites, chasing after them!! The plan is to give the 9,000 fans in the stadium something to shout about which will be heard as far away as the HSG handball arena.
