Using the system, which is also used in motor-sport, the Werder players train wearing a vest, which contains a transmitter, and delivers information on pulse rate, speed and meters covered, directly to the pitch-side computer.
“In recent years, science has produced certain things that make sense for us to use, to an extent, in our work. With these measurement systems we have the opportunity to control training better. One aspect is that we receive data which we didn’t previously have and have definite confirmation of developments and observations which we could only previously make with our eyes. The system supports our work but will never control our efforts and our football,” explained Thomas Schaaf.
