This was one comeback that the Werder fans had been very eagerly awaiting. Torsten Frings was back on the pitch for a Bundesliga game for the first time since match day eleven of the current season. It was the German internationals second attempt at a comeback since he suffered a set-back following a lay off due to an injury picked up at the Dusseldorf Winter Cup back at the end of January.

“Considering what I’ve been true, I was a bit anxious as to whether everything would go alright. I’m really happy now that everything is back to how it should be and that my knee held out. I had put in a lot of hard work during my rehabilitation training. I now have 100% fate in the inner ligaments in my knee again”, said Torsten Frings at the end of a game that saw the midfielder return and quickly slot back into the team of which he is such a vital element.

During the first period, Frings was involved in more tackles than any other player on the pitch and came out on top in most of his man-on-man challenges: “I’m more one of those players that the whole team can orientate towards when I’m fully fit”, explained a confident Frings, who was so important to the team from the sidelines in what has been a couple of very testing weeks for the Green-Whites.

Whilst many of his team-mates drudged their way to the team bus, disappointed by both the results of recent weeks and the draw in Bielefeld, Frings pulled no punches and demonstrated his unyielding belief in the strength of the Werder side: “Of course it’s sad that we once again failed to make use of our superiority but we will find our scoring touch again soon. At the end of the day, we still have the best attack in the Bundesliga, with the most goals scored, and we haven’t forgotten how it’s done.”
