Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf had to make do without Frank Baumann, Clemens Fritz, Petri Pasanen, Ivan Klasnic and Boubacar Sanogo at Monday’s training session. It is as yet unclear as to whether or not those individuals will be available on Thursday, 13.03.2008 for the UEFA Cup return leg against Glasgow Rangers.
The Werder trainer is still hopeful of Clemens Fritz and Petri Pasanen returning to the fold pretty soon, with both having gone through individual training on Monday. “Petri and Clemens underwent specialised training today. Clemens took a knock during the game on Saturday”, explained Schaaf. Pasanen is still suffering from the effects of bruised ribs, which he picked up in the first leg against Rangers.
Frank Baumann was allowed a day of rest to recover from a flu virus which he caught before flying out to Scotland. The club captain was wary as to when he might be fit enough to return to full team training: “I suffered something of a relapse following the two games in quick succession. I have no more stomach problems but I just feel a bit weak. I hope that I will be back to full strength in time for the game.”
Boubacar Sanogo, on the other hand, looked decidedly less happy. The Ivory Coast international is still suffering from the after effects of a cold which laid him out in the last week. Under the circumstances, the striker is not building up any hopes of making a speedy return. The same applies to Ivan Klasnic, who is currently out of action with a thigh strain.
