As the first pictures were beamed out live online at 8:45pm (cet), some 7,000 users bore witness to the historic moment. It was the pre-match programme for the first UEFA Cup game involving a Bundesliga side, to be broadcast exclusively and live on the internet.
By kick-off time, the number of Werder fans watching in on their monitors had risen to 10,000 and the quality of the broadcast didn’t affect the viewing figures: "From our partner at Maxdome we received the feedback that the server was running at full capacity but dealt with the congestion well. The picture was of good quality and steady for all customers meeting necessary prerequisites. It was worthwhile for us, that we got things in motion with Maxdome over the last few days so as to offer as many fans as possible the opportunity to be involved in this internet premier", explained media director Tino Polster.
