He is still somehow the new guy, on the pitch at least. From the seven months that Sebastian Boenisch has been signed to Werder Bremen, the youngster has been out with a knee injury for the last five. Not the best start to make with a new club but he feels he has used the time well.

He is still somehow the new guy, on the pitch at least. From the seven months that Sebastian Boenisch has been signed to Werder Bremen, the youngster has been out with a knee injury for the last five. Not the best start to make with a new club but he feels he has used the time well: "I spent a lot of time in rehabilitation and had the chance to get to know some of my colleagues there quite well. Unfortunately there have been a lot of injuries."

"So far as comradeship is concerned, I am already a part of the team but it’s also very important of course to play together and I’m only getting the chance to do that now", summarised Boenisch after his first start for the Green-Whites. Against Eintracht in Frankfurt, he got to show just what Werder and his interpretation of the full-back roll have in common - the will to attack!

Last Saturday Sebastian Boenisch notched up four shots on goal and one perfect pass to Tim Borowski as he took up his favoured spot on the left side of the back four. It’s not a position he insists on playing but he does prefer to be there: "When I’m on the flank I have the whole pitch spread out in front of me and then I can best use the pace that I possess. I am looking forward to the game on Saturday against Dortmund."
