September 29th 2007 was basically a wonderful day for Peter Niemeyer. For the first time, he’d battled his way into the Green-Whites starting eleven and then scored the leading goal against Arminia Bielefeld. Then suddenly the joy was over! After a tackle, the youngster had to be substituted with an ankle injury which would prove complicated and tedious: "After the initial examination I thought I might miss out on one game", explained the 24 year old who was subsequently to be out of action for five long months.

"There were continually things happening that came totally unexpectedly and then went wrong", Niemeyer said of his frustration. After three months of suffering, the player himself decided a change of scenery would do him good and, after discussing the issue with the Werder doctors, he decided to travel to Dusseldorf to work on his comeback with the German ‘Under 21’ physio.

On Tuesday, Niemeyer was back on the training pitch and fully kitted out again for the first time since the injury and, although it was just for an individual session with Werder physio Stefan Wolters, the young player was clearly delighted to be amongst his peers again: "I’m so happy to be out here on the pitch with the lads again, even if I can’t join in with team training. I can only hope that things continue along quickly now and that I can join my team mates again soon." The midfielder has no set plans as to when he will return yet - setbacks have made him very cautious!
