Two days ahead of the final Bundesliga match of the season in Kaiserslautern, Werder's personnel situation remains problematic. "It could be that one or two players perhaps get back to training on Friday but we don't know for certain," said head coach Thomas Schaaf at the press conference Thursday without too high of expectations. Schaaf said the team hopes to have a "good finish" despite the injury concerns.

One player expected to be on hand will be Aaron Hunt as the midfielder came back from his back problems to complete team training Thursday afternoon. "I am without pain and felt good on the pitch. I am optimistic that I can help the team again on Saturday and be on the squad," said Hunt. Denni Avdic also was positive after his most recent training session. "I feel a lot better and I hope that I can be there on the weekend," said Avdic. But there are doubts about the Kaiserslautern match for Per Mertesacker and Sandro Wagner.

Werder backup keeper Christian Vander must also sit out as the 30-year-old suffered a chipped bone in his right hand and is wearing a cast and cannot get back between the posts. In the afternoon, he worked out with goalkeeper coach Michael 'Tiger' Kraft and Jerome Reisacher. The 19-year-old keeper from Freiburg's second team is on a tryout until today with Werder's youth team.
