After every match, the fans can vote for the Man of the Match on Werder's official Facebook page. The voting for the Mainz match was still on-going but it was pretty much clear who the winner would be this time as well - Franco Di Santo, for the fifth time this season. The Argentinean scored both goals to shoot Werder to their first Bundesliga victory of the season in Mainz. They were his fifth and sixth goals.
Things are rolling for Di Santo, no question. But the Argentinean himself has remained modest. "I am there as a striker to use those kinds of chances. I only did what I'm supposed to do," said Di Santo after the match with a shrug of the shoulders, almost questioning why he's receiving so much attention. His first brace in the Bundesliga also moved him into a tie for first place in the scoring race, which earned him plenty of praise from his teammates.
"He makes the most out of the least. He's the sharp-shooter who converts the few situations into goals. But he could score even more if we put him into better situations," said Zlatko Junuzovic. Di Santo's second goal was especially well set up. Head coach Viktor Skripnik was more than pleased with the match winner, who scored both goals at especially crucial points in the match just before and after the break. "He is just great, good for the entire club. He's fun and everything takes things real easy. Maybe that's his South American lifestyle," said the coach.
