When head coach Robin Dutt starts Werder training on 26 June, one of his new acquisitions will be able to say his first words in German. Alejandro Galvez, who transferred to the Green-Whites three weeks ago from Rayo Vallecano, has rarely left Spain during his first 24 years. But Werder's new player, who is still in home country, said in an interview with the online version of futbol.as that he already is preparing for his new environment.
"The transfer to Werder is a huge challenge for me within a very interesting project. I have already started taking German lessons. It's important for me to have a foundation of the German language. Hopefully I can get integrated quickly into the city and the club and also learn the language quickly on site," said Galvez.
Galvez did say he definitely will have respect coming to Bremen and experiencing an entirely different environment. "Sure I sense some nervousness. When you know that you're going to a new country and have to adjust as quickly as possible, then you think about those things. It will be a major adjustment for me. Still, I am really looking forward to it," said Galvez.
Fellow Spanish language players Santiago Garcia and Franco Di Santo will likely help Galvez with his integration. "Luckily both are there. That will certainly do me good," said the 24-year-old, who was known as a relentless defender in the Primera Division.
The Spaniard did not always play on defence. "When I was a small child, I used to play the midfield. Over the course of the years, my coaches would continually push me further back," said Galvez. He finally made it to the middle when he arrived at Sporting Gijon, initially central midfield and then to the centre back position. "When I arrived at Rayo, the coach and I recognised quickly that I should play defence because that's where I am strongest," he continued.
Dutt will definitely be happy about a variable player who can push forward quickly from the back. But Galvez himself isn't interested in playing further forward any more after playing in the centre of the defence for nearly three years. "Nobody's going to get me away now."
