More than a year after earning his last cap, Eljero Elia is once again a part of the Netherlands' national team as Dutch coach Louis van Gaal nominated the 25-year-old for the World Cup qualifier in Romania on Tuesday at 8 p.m. "Of course it's super for me and the club. My agent called me this morning and told me that they called me up. I am happy to finally be back with the national team. That gives me confidence," said Elia Saturday after hearing the positive news.
The SV Werder Bremen winger will travel to Noorbeek, Netherlands to prepare with his teammates for the match in Bucharest. That meant that he was not in the roster for the Green-Whites' test match against Dynamo Kiev in Cloppenburg.
The last of Elia's 26 caps, in which he scored two goals, came on 11 October 2011 in the 2012 European Championship qualifier in Sweden. He was subbed in after 73 minutes for Dirk Kuyt. Elia also played one match for the Dutch U21 national team.
