Rain and cool temperatures did not scare off Werder fans from storming to "Day of Fans" 2011. It's basically a holiday for Green-White supporters which traditionally takes place shortly before the start of the season. This year it returned to Weser Stadium for the first time in three years and 20,000 visitors accepted the invitation.
"The Day of Fans is once again where it belongs," said club president Klaus-Dieter Fischer. Chairman of the board Klaus Allofs was also happy to have the celebration at the Green-Whites' home. "The fact that we could celebrate the Day of the Fans here again where we cross our fingers and suffer and celebrate together is the result of a long process. We wanted to have a football-only stadium and can now use this arena in its full capacity. When Weser Stadium is full, it is one of the most impressive places in the Bundesliga," said Allofs. He also thanked the fans. "They had to deal with some limitations the past couple years and always supported us tremendously. This year they will be rewarded with this arena," added Allofs.
The main attraction of the day once again was the autograph hours of the players from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All of the visitors had a chance for some contact to their stars. Then starting at 2 p.m., the team was presented to their supporters in a big show at Weser Stadium. The Bundesliga team was introduced on a stage in the East Curve with nearly 10,000 fans showing up in the east curve and north grandstands. They gave their stars plenty of support going into the season.
