Twelve months have flown by - filled with highs and lows, celebrations and disappointments, departures and returns. 2011 - a year with wonderful moments but also some difficult times between relegation angst and dreams of fall championships. TSV Frankonia Höpfingen may not have had enough for a miracle but the amateur Landesliga team still had a memorable football day on 18 September 2011. As part of the 100 years of existence, TARGOBANK, Werder's main sponsor, made available a very special birthday gift. They allowed one team - which TSV Frankonia Höpfingen won the honour - to join the celebration with a test match against the Green-Whites. Behind the strength of Pizarro, Wiese and co, Werder won the game 4-0 with two goals by Rosenberg and single scores from Hunt and Aycicek.

First, third, second, third, second - those were the final standings following the 2003-04 to 2007-08 seasons. This could be called consistency. Despite the poor finish from the past season, Werder generated a positive yearly annual result for seven straight years. With a turnover of nearly 120 million euro, the profit of 8.2 million was actually the second-highest in club history. Personnel-wise, Werder Bremen have also proved themselves reliable as club president Klaus-Dieter Fischer was re-elected for the coming four years by the member assembly. Two weeks later, he was confirmed as manager of the academy of football, women's football other sports and social management.

The fact that the word Lutscher does not spark the image of a sucker for the past 15 years in Bremen can be traced back to Andi Herzog. The Austrian gave the nickname to a young teammate who transferred from Alemannia Aachen to Werder Brmen in 1997 when Torsten Frings was 20 years old and known for his loud mouth. But 372 competitive matches and 35 goals later for Werder, Frings decided to prove that he can make his opinion known in another language. In June, the long-time German international transferred to Canadian MLS club Toronto FC.
