Werder defender Theodor Gebre Selassie and his Czech Republic side will travel to the European Championship in France as group winners. The Czechs overcame Holland 3-2 on Tuesday night, with 'Theo' playing the full 90 minutes for his country for the first time since March. The 28-year-old played well despite featuring in the unfamiliar left-back position.
The German U20 national side have one more title in the bag. Frank Wormuth's side won the deciding fixture against England 1-0 on Tuesday evening, securing their Elite Cup win. Max Dittgen of SG Sonnenhof Großaspach scored the winner on 49 minutes, whilst a draw would have been enough for England to win the title courtesy of their superior goal difference. Werder's talented young defender Luca Zander was brought off after 61 minutes for Lukas Klünter of 1. FC Köln with the score at 1-0. Bremen's Leon Guwara was introduced in the closing minutes for goalscorer Dittgen, whilst Maximilian Eggestein and goalkeeper Michael Zetterer did not feature in the final game of the tournament.
Claudio Pizarro and Peru are already in qualifying action for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Last night, 'Piza' was an unused substitute as Peru lost 4-3 to Chile.
All internationals are expected back in Bremen in the coming days.
