SV Werder Bremen drew 1-1 with Hansa Rostock in their second and final game of their pre-season training camp. Bremen dominated the early exchanges but the hosts grew into the match the longer it went on. Rostock deservedly equalised with 20 minutes left on the clock.
Felix Wiedwald was the only Werder player to complete the 90 minutes. Viktor Skripnik substituted all 10 of this outfield players at the break. The first half saw new signing Anthony Ujah line-up alongside Franco Di Santo for the first time.
5th Minute: Goal! The Rostock defence fails to clear the ball and it drops to Makiadi who fires home emphatically from the edge of the box. 1-0!
12th Minute: Luca Zander almost makes it two! The defender latches on to a fantastic pall from Bargfrede but he fires straight at the keeper when well placed.
30th Minute: The hosts almost level. A misunderstanding in the Bremen backline gives Perstaller the chance to level but he fires just past the post.
45th+1 Minute: Stunning stop Wiedwald! The keeper reacts well to push Dennis Erdmann's effort wide for a corner.
48th Minuten: Bremen have the first chance of the second half too. Levent Aycicek's mazy run takes him into the box but his powerful effort is deflected to safety.
66th Minute: Perstaller vs. Wiedwald - Round 2! Once again the keeper comes out on top. This time, he tips the striker's header to safety.
67th Minute: More chances for the hosts. Bickel finds himself free in the box but is unable to convert.
70th Minute: Goal for Hansa Rostock! Perstaller gets the better of Wiedwald finally. The Austrian striker nets a deserved equaliser for the hosts.
There was a bit of visible tiredness after the training camp, however, the Werder players put in a top first half performance and deserved their lead at the break. However, as the game progressed, the hosts grew into the game and they equalised with just 20 minutes to go.
Viktor Skripnik: "I'm happy. Not necessary with the result, but definitely with the performance. They gave it their all even though they had a tough week. We saw a lot of the ball and played some nice stuff."
Felix Wiedwald: "We've had a tough week and are happy with how we did in the game. It's too early in pre-season to put emphasis on the result really. We performed well."
Clemens Fritz: "Felix was excellent. Without him we would have conceded more goals. It's important to have competition for places all over the park!"
