The captain is staying on board for another year! Clemens Fritz has extended his SV Werder contract for another year until 30/06/2016.
"We had some good discussions in the last few weeks. Things are moving in the right direction at SV Werder and I am convinced that I can support the team with my experience to help us achieve our goals", explained Fritz, who for a long time had considered ending his successful career at the end of this season. "I made the most of this time. I wanted to get a feel of whether or not my body could cope with another year at the absolute top level. And it's looking good. I feel very good, the conditions here are great and I'm still really excited to be playing", he continued.
Sporting director, Thomas Eichin, is pleased that the 34 year old will continue to lead the Green-Whites in the future. "We always stressed that it was up to him to make this decision and it pleases us all greatly that he has decided to stay on another year. We are convinced that Clemens, with his leadership qualities and personality, will be great for our young players and for the whole team", emphasised Eichin.
Manager Viktor Skripnik also appeared to be delighted at his captain's extension: "Clemens shows week in week out just how important he is to this club. The coaching staff are all very happy that he will be here for another year. He is an important spokesperson for us."
Clemens Fritz has been at Werder since 2006 and has been captain for the last four years. In total Fritz, who is the longest serving player at Werder, has played 310 competitive matches for the Green-Whites. His biggest achievement as a Werder player was the 2009 DFB Cup win.
