Topp nets hat-trick in 3-1 first-round cup win

SV Werder Bremen are through to the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 3-1 win at FC Energie Cottbus. A hat-trick from Keke Topp (32', 37', 55') sealed the Green-White's progression in front of 20,524 fans at the LEAG Energie Stadion. Former Werder player Henry Rorig was able to get one back for the hosts (70').

Captain Friedl leads six-man team council

Werder Bremen have announced the club’s team council for the 2024/25 season. Michael Zetterer, Milos Veljkovic, Jens Stage, Niklas Stark and Leonardo Bittencourt will form a leadership team around club captain Marco Friedl over the course of the upcoming campaign.

Defeat in second friendly in Rennes

After their first match of the afternoon ended in a 1-1 draw against Stade Rennais, SV Werder Bremen sent out a different side for their second clash with the French first-division side. After a hard-fought opening half, the hosts were able to take the lead through Benjamin Bourigeaud (48').

Romano Schmid has enjoyed a successful season so far. The Graz-born midfielder played an important role in Austria’s campaign at EURO 2024 after some consistent performances.
