The long training camp in Zillertal in now over. Over the last ten days, the players have been preparing for the 2024/25 season in many different sessions at the Parkstadion in Zell am Ziller. As the team now return to Bremen, it’s time to look back on the last week and a half.

After ten training sessions, a bicycle tour of the Zillertal, a canyoning trip and two friendly matches, the Green-Whites are now on the way back to their home city. Ahead of the second half of pre-season, Ole Werner summarises how it’s gone so far. “We’ve avoided any injuries up to now and have been able to drill our style of play into the team,” said our head coach. “We’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us though.”

The 3-0 defeat to US Lecce and the 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday have shown that there’s still work to be done. However, Werner still believes that his team are progressing well four weeks before the start of the Bundesliga season. “We know what stage of pre-season we’re at,” emphasised the 36-year-old. “It’s hard to compare it to last year, because then we didn’t head to the training camp until after the second week.”

It should also be added that key player Romano Schmid and new signing Marco Grüll have only just joined up with the team. The Green-Whites will therefore have an almost full squad to work with over the last few weeks.

“We still have plenty of time to work on the things that we haven’t been doing so well, and Romano and Marco will both help us with that with their quality and character,” said Werner. “The group is big enough, and we’re well-stocked in every position, so we have both a good core and the opportunity to be flexible. Of course, it also helps to have new ideas that bring about change and force you to approach challenges in a different way.”
