The bar has been set high, with Norway being known for its fascinating landscapes. However, Isak Hansen-Aarøen is a big fan of Zillertal, and not just from a sporting perspective. “It’s a bit like when I go home to see my grandparents,” laughed Hansen-Aarøen, who got to discover the area a fair bit on a light Sunday morning cycle. “It’s very similar with its many mountains and lots of greenery.”

However, Hansen-Aarøen’s professional career highlight took place back in Bremen. After the tricky midfielder left his hometown Tromsø to join Manchester United, SVW became the 19-year-old's second home away from home. In Spyros Angelidis and Leon Opitz, the midfielder has even found two teammates with whom he envisages becoming great friends. “It might be due to their age or because they also don’t have a wife and kids,” Hansen-Aarøen about the reasons for their strong relationship. “I’ve been warmly welcomed overall, though, everyone is very nice to me and I feel I can be myself.”

“I’m trying to prove myself to the coach”

With his charisma, eye-catching tattoos and the great potential that undoubtedly lies within him, he is one of the most asked about players on the Green-Whites' social media platforms. The Norway U21 player has 195,000 followers on Instagram, making him one of the most-followed Werder players. “It’s obviously great to hear,” replied Hansen-Aarøen when asked about his good reception amongst the Werder fans. “When I get the chance, I always try and take pictures with them or sign autographs.”

His desire to prove himself at the pre-season training camp is much important to the Norwegian than the growth of his social media profile, however. After making his first-team debut and three cameo appearances during the last Bundesliga season, Hansen-Aarøen is now looking to make the next step. “I’m trying to prove myself to the coach and to really impress him,” explained Hansen-Aarøen when asked about his goals for the upcoming campaign. “I’d like to play as much as possible and perhaps make the odd start.” The Norwegian is currently laying the foundation to achieve this objective at the training camp in Zillertal.
