On Monday night at the club’s annual general meeting, SV Werder Bremen announced that midfielder Jens Stage has signed a new contract with the Green-Whites.
“Jens extending his contract is another important signal for the team and the entire club. It underlines the fact that something is developing here, something that the players can identify with and want to be a part of,” explained Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football.
“Jens has developed into a true leader over the past two and a half years and has been part of the team council since the start of this season. He’s become an important point of contact within the team, both on and off the pitch, and takes on responsibility. On top of all that, he’s shown how dangerous he can be in the final third too this season,” said Werder’s head coach Ole Werner.
The 28-year-old, who joined Werder in summer 2022 from FC Copenhagen, has scored 10 goals in 73 games for the club so far, with four of these alone coming in 2024/25. He recently got Werder’s first goal in the 2-1 win over Kiel in the last match, while he bagged an unforgettable hat-trick in the 4-3 comeback victory at Hoffenheim. “Playing with this team for Werder is really enjoyable right now. We’ve developed constantly as a side since I’ve been in Bremen. We’ve got a clear plan and always want to improve, and I want to be a part of that,” said Stage, whose impressive performances in Werder colours have also earned him a recall to the Danish national team.
