The draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal was carried out at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday afternoon. SV Werder have been pitted against SC Paderborn 07, with the second-division side hosting the tie on either 29th or 30th October.

The draw was done by German Olympic gold medal winner in 3x3 basketball Sonja Greinacher during an edition of ZDF’s Sportstudio, and was overseen by DFB vice president Peter Frymuth.

Draw reaction

Head coach Ole Werner: “We experienced ourselves already two years ago how difficult it is to go to Paderborn in the cup, so it will be a real challenge. Nevertheless, our goal is to reach the next round.”

Head of professional football Peter Niemeyer: “It will be a high-intensity match in Paderborn. It’s a knockout game and SC will provide a serious challenge. We want to show our quality on the pitch and, with the fans behind us, we hope we can get over his hurdle and reach the next round.”

Niklas Stark: “They are tough opponents, who are having a good season so far. We know it means to play them in the cup, and we want to get revenge for last time. I had hoped for a home tie, but we have to accept the situation and make sure we’re fully prepared.”
