The draw for the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals was carried out on the ZDF programme Sportstudio on Sunday, 15th December. SV Werder will travel to third-tier side Arminia Bielefeld in their last-eight tie. The matches will take place on 4th and 5th February, as well as on 25th and 26th February.

The Green-Whites reached this stage following a 3-1 win over Energie Cottbus and 1-0 victories over both SC Paderborn and Darmstadt 98. Germany handball international Julian Köster has now drawn Arminia as SVW’s next opponents.

Reaction to the draw

Head coach Ole Werner: “We’re looking forward to the challenge. We want to prove that our tag as favourites is justified, even though we’re well aware that they’ve already beaten one or two opponents in higher leagues. We’re going to Bielefeld with the aim of getting into the semi-finals. We’re looking forward to the game.”

Captain Marco Friedl: “We know how difficult this challenge will be. It’s always tough to play away at the Alm. We know we have to win though, because we’re playing against a third-tier side. We’ll give everything to reach the semi-finals.”

Amos Pieper: “It’ll be a special game for me as a former Bielefeld player. I’m looking forward to going back there. The atmosphere is always good. It’s an intriguing draw, and we’re very aware of the task ahead of us. We’ll travel there with respect and aim to get through to the next round.”

Michael Zetterer: “Bielefeld is obviously one of the better draws we could have had. They haven’t come this far for no reason though, and have already beaten Freiburg at home. If we put in the same performance we have in previous rounds, we can get through.”
