...2024: "We can look back on a good year. There are only a few teams that have managed to pick up more points than us during this time, which is really testament to the strength of the team. We want to end Saturday on a positive note once again by delivering a strong performance and hopefully winning the game.”
…opponents Union Berlin: “They are a very experienced team. Their games recently have all been close and, with a little luck, could have ended differently. They are a very mature and disciplined side, with plenty of experience, physicality and focus — we will be up against a tough challenge. We will need to put in a top-level performance along with maintaining our defensive stability from past weeks. Just like St. Pauli, they won’t give us 10 or 15 chances, which is why we need to make the most of the opportunities we do create.”
…winter transfer to compensate for injuries: “We’re keeping an eye on the topic and are aware of the issue, given that we have several double game weeks straight away in January. We want to try to give ourselves more of those as well. We’re looking whether there’s any opportunities for us to react, but they have to make sense for us once our injured players return. After all, none of them are dealing with season-ending injuries. At the same time, we also have to keep an eye on team chemistry, because we always want to have a group that functions well as a team.”
…Patrice Covic: “He will begin training with the first team in January. He’s still a young U19 player and the aim is for him to be able to gather experience of what it’s like to be part of the first-team dressing room and compete for a spot in the starting line-up. He’s been taught well and is very eager to learn, and we want to continue guiding his development long term. He will need time and also feature for our academy still. We will slowly introduce him to professional football.”
ℹ️ Squad update ahead of #svwfcu: Hansen-Aarøen (ankle problem), Topp (ankle injury), Agu (ankle ligament injury), Njinmah (ankle problem) & Bittencourt (adductor) will not be part of the squad this weekend. #werder

…the latest round of fixtures being released: “We can always count on strong support on the road, regardless of which day of the week it is. We’re really happy about that, because it’s not something that every club can enjoy. We don’t have any influence over the matter and so we take the timings as they come. There are certainly some time slots that will benefit us, for example, playing in Freiburg on a Friday the week before our cup game. But, as a fan and an athlete, Saturday at 15:30 is definitely the time you most want to play at. Maybe we’ll get given more games in that time slot later in the season.”
…his plans for the holidays: “I’ll spend Christmas with my family, and we’ve established a tradition of having raclette together. Otherwise, I’ll be at home with my family and friends, those that will come back to Kiel over the holidays. I always look forward to that, but it doesn’t leave much time for a vacation. I’ll be back in Bremen after New Year’s and from 2nd January, our focus will be on the game against Leipzig.”
