The day started with SV Werder practicing their set pieces at the Weserstadion, before head coach Ole Werner addressed the media from his pre-match press conference. This weekend will see the Green-Whites travel to face TSG Hoffenheim on Sunday (29th September, 17:30 CEST). "We're heading to Hoffenheim with the intention of winning the game," the 36-year-old said.

This past week has been about processing and analysing the 5-0 defeat against FC Bayern München. "You can't spend five days going over a game that's in the past," Werner explained. "It's always the same procedure, regardless of whether we've won or lost. We analyse the match and identify our mistakes. You then have one or two days off to be upset at the result, before the focus is back on the task ahead."

Upcoming opponents TSG Hoffenheim are competing in the Europa League this term, having made adjustments to their squad in preparation for this. "They were able to bring in several new players," said Werner, although Hoffenheim have only won one of their four Bundesliga games so far. "We've also had that experience in Bremen, that your cohesiveness on the pitch depends on factors such as when the squad has been put together and been completed."

As a result, the Green-Whites are heading to Sinsheim with respect for their opponents, but also with the intention of taking all three points home with them. "They are strong on the ball and have several options in attack," said Werner. "For us, it will come down to avoiding mistakes when in possession and to not provide them with opportunities to hit us on the counter." If things go their way, the team will be able to return home with their second away win of the season.
