A strong performance saw SV Werder Bremen take a point at home against defending champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The Green-Whites managed to fight their way back despite trailing twice. WERDER.DE have summed up all the post-match reaction from head coach Ole Werner and his team.

Head coach Ole Werner: "The fact that we did everything together speaks for the game as a whole. We defended very, very well and allowed only a few clear-cut chances. We also played good football and managed to enjoy our own spells of possession, just like we wanted to. We're happy with the performance and the result. We managed to capture the stadium right from the start – we were all in it together today. Together, we managed to be rewarded for everything that we put in."

Marco Friedl: "Excepting the period after they made it 2-1, when we were lucky that Wirtz didn't score a third, we played well for much of the game. We had a solid game plan and made things tough for Leverkusen by being aggressive. We generated a lot of threat on goal and deservedly earned a point. As a team, we always say that we want to take the next step and continue to develop. We were pushing for an equaliser and we got it, but we then found ourselves trailing again and then managed to come back again – this really shows the spirit within the team, so hats off to us. We invested a lot of effort into the game."

Mitchell Weiser: "We played hard for over 90 minutes, but were punished by their individual quality. I don't remember whether they had any other chances in the first half, but ours were definitely better. We kept our foot on the gas even after conceding for the second time. We always believed in ourselves and deserved the point. We were much more aggressive and better on the ball than last season."

Marvin Ducksch: "A great game from us. We put up a strong fight against a top team for over 90 minutes and carved out some great chances. In the end, we will gladly take the point. We're all extremely happy and can take this with us into our next games. I watched some of the other Bundesliga games today where there were a few goals scored from range, and thought I'd try to do the same today."

Michael Zetterer: "Based on how the game went, we should be satisfied with the point as odd as that sounds, because we were hosting the defending champions. We showed great fighting spirit and came back twice despite trailing. We fully deserved the point as a result."

Felix Agu: "I'm happy about the point. The own goal was really unlucky for me. We played our game and defended well. I don't know what the statistics say, but I feel like we had the better quality chances."
