Despite an overall solid performance, the Green-Whites were left empty-handed after a 1-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening. Read on for all the post-match reaction from within the team.
Head coach Ole Werner: "We wanted to make it a close game and make it a game in which we would also have control. I'm satisfied with our performance over the course of the 90 minutes. We didn't allow them many clear-cut chances – the team did very well in that regard, and they managed to also mount attacks of their own via the flanks. However, we didn't manage to finish our chances in the final third. We need to be able to do that in order to take something from this game, which is why the result is frustrating. We should have defended better inside our box on their goal. Overall, we want to take this good performance with us into our next home game against Stuttgart."
Marco Friedl: "We shouldn't have lost this game. The first half was solid, as were long periods of the match overall. We knew that Frankfurt would manage to create a couple chances for themselves, especially with the quality they have. We gave it everything and often made some last-ditch clearances. But, that's not enough for us to not come away empty-handed. Frankfurt punished us instantly for that one mistake, but we still managed to deliver a good performance that we want to build on. We have several big games coming up still, in which we will have more opportunities to pick up points."
Niklas Stark: "We left it all out on the pitch and did a lot of things right, and we would have deserved at least a point. Frankfurt have also worked hard for the good form they're currently enjoying. We just weren't clinical enough to take home a point or even all three today. We made one error, which then resulted in the goal. It's frustrating because we didn't make a lot of mistakes and we also created a few chances, and yet we're still heading home empty-handed."
A picture that sums up how close we came to at least a point tonight ???? Nevertheless, a performance to build on ???? #werder #sgesvw

Mitchell Weiser: "We weren't clinical enough with the chances we did manage to create. We were then punished for a small miscommunication at the back. We weren't well positioned, which will always make things difficult against a team with the quality that Eintracht Frankfurt have. Frankfurt managed to get a goal and we didn't – that's the difference in the end. We'd set out to take something from this game and based on how the match went, this would have been possible for us – that's why the result is a painful one for us. We performed well despite this being a tough place to play away at. If we want to take the next step, then we need to manage to improve on those things that we didn't do well tonight. We will work on this."
Clemens Fritz, managing director for sport: "Frankfurt made it difficult for us and we were also missing that little bit of luck today. During the first half, we could have been more clinical in certain situations. However, we can't place any blame on the team. They delivered a brave performance on the road. The first half was a bit hectic, but overall, it's too bad that we weren't able to be rewarded. It's important for us to remain confident heading into our upcoming games."
