Ole Werner, head coach: “It’s a deserved win and a very emotional one as well, due to the winning goal only coming in the 94th minute. We remained patient and didn’t afford them much space. We did well at keeping our shape up until we reached the penalty box, but we did lack sharpness at times. Darmstadt defended well in front of their goal, which is why it was clear that a set piece could be the way through for us. Overall, I’m pleased with our performance. We’re through to the next round, which is fantastic. We will try to progress again in the next round — let’s see who we get in the draw.”
Anthony Jung, match-winner: “I’m very proud of the team, because we put in a very solid performance. Anything can happen in the cup, but we remained focused right until the end. What we were missing was that final touch to finish our chances. We knew that it wouldn’t be easy and remained patient and calm. I’m very happy about that, because we won and I was able to score.”
Niklas Stark: “We were expecting to come up again a strong opponent that would defend deep. They are doing well in the second division at the minute, which is why we knew that it wouldn’t be easy. We remained patient and kept our heads, which prevented any gaps from opening up for them. We only scored late on, but at least we scored. I was extremely relieved and am very grateful to Tony for that.”
Marvin Ducksch: “We kept managing to make our way into the final third, but there was always something that was missing. Darmstadt were compact at the back, but we also did well at getting back into position after losing possession. Darmstadt were constantly able to get a foot in between the ball and the net, but we kept believing. In the end, we managed to come out on top due to our individual quality, and I think it’s a deserved win.”
