SV Werder Bremen faced a tough opponent in Bochum on Saturday, as Jens Stage scored the only goal of the afternoon. WERDER.DE have collected all the post-match reaction from Ole Werner & Co.
Ole Werner, head coach: "At halftime, we had the feeling that whichever team managed to score first would go on to win the game. The goal came at the right moment, as Bochum had come out strong in the second half. It was a well-taken corner, and Jens timed his run perfectly. His ability to read the game and technical ability in tight spaces is really serving him well at the minute and it's the reason why we are heading home with all three points today."
Clemens Fritz, managing director for sport: "We knew that it wouldn't be a 'pretty' game. But, when you're away in Bochum then you have to be prepared to take up the fight, which is what we did. Our opponents played with a high intensity right from the start and we struggled to find any space. Our performance during the second half was strong, with the sole caveat being that we should have been more clinical with our chances. Nevertheless, the team are due a huge compliment for how they played today."
Jens Stage, match-winner: "It wasn't our best performance today as a team, but it's always tough to play in Bochum. There are several other teams that have also struggled on their visits here. We fought for each other over the course of an evenly-matched game and were able to find solutions for many situations together. Our desire to score ultimately paid off. I'm happy whenever I can help the team be successful by scoring. Now, we also want to win our final two games ahead of the winter break."

Marco Friedl, captain: "I think we did well to win this game today. Bochum are a tough opponent at home and they will make you fight for every inch on the pitch. We showed that we are capable of delivering a strong team performance even after a tiring week with a midweek fixture. The fact that our goal came from a set piece was fitting when you consider the game as a whole. In the end, Jens was rewarded for his efforts after a great corner from Duckschi. His strength at heading the ball was the difference today."
Marvin Ducksch: "It was hard work today. We knew what to expect from the fans and the atmosphere. Bochum defend man-to-man across the pitch, and it's not easy for any team to play here. Huge compliment to the team for the number of long balls they had to clear. We were then in the right spot at the right time in attack today."
