SV Werder Bremen kickstarted their 2025 on Thursday afternoon with the first training session of the new year, which saw head of professional football Peter Niemeyer make a special appearance. The 41-year-old spoke to the journalists after training regarding:

… the squad: “The players with long-term injuries were not involved in the session. This included Keke Topp, Felix Agu and Justin Njinmah, who completed an individual session, as well as Leonardo Bittencourt and Michael Zetterer, who were both absent due to illness. Marvin Ducksch underwent a procedure on his thyroid over the winter break, but we’re expecting him to return to action as quickly as possible and hope that he will only miss a few days of training. We'll just need to take each day as it comes.”

… the short winter break: “It was a short break, but beneficial for everyone. The players used the time away to clear their heads, and the boys are all now back in the swing of things. We’re now doing our utmost to get ready for the season to resume. The facilities here are great, so we’ll be able to prepare effectively for the game in Leipzig.”

"The atmosphere is very positive"

… the positive start to the campaign: “Following our strong results at the end of last year, we’re definitely feeling motivated ahead of the last two first-round games and the entire second half of the season, as well as the DFB-Pokal.The atmosphere is very positive, which we’re really pleased about. However, the season doesn’t end after 15 matches, which is why we’re feeling positive about where we are at this point and are working hard to ensure that our form continues until the end of the season."

… a busy schedule to start the year: “We demonstrated our strength of character last year and remained positive in the games where it mattered most. Getting off to a strong start can give you a real boost and we finished the year on a high, which we want to continue when the season resumes. I'm feeling optimistic for when things get up and running again.”

… the goals for 2025: “We ultimately want to start the new year on the right foot and continue to give it everything for the club. We’ll use this short preparation period to get ready for the busy schedule when our matches resume. For now, we want to remain focused and keep sight of our goal of collecting 40 points."

… possible transfers: “Ultimately, we’re very happy with our squad. I don’t want to rule anything out, we’re cautious in that respect, but will be prepared if something does come our way.”
