Anthony Jung is always there when needed, surpassing the 30 appearances mark in each of his seasons with the Green-Whites due to his solid performances. In the current campaign, in fact, he has featured in every competitive match to date. On Tuesday, 15/10/2024, the 32-year-old defender spoke to the press regarding his take on the matches so far and the concentration placed on the upcoming task away to VfL Wolfsburg.

While some Werder players remain on international duty during the break from domestic action, Anthony Jung spent this time in Bremen with his family, and for important reasons too. “First and foremost, of course, we had training here, but we also have a baby on the way. Our second son is due to be born, so we took it very easy during the days off here in Bremen.”

The 32-year-old centre-back, who has played in every competitive match this season, maintains the same calm, composed and convincing demeanour in interview as he does on the pitch. “I aim to put in consistent, solid performances. I’m not the type to do the spectacular (laughs). Everything is just going for me right now. It feels really good and I’m grateful to be able to soak up every training session. I’m really enjoying playing my football at the moment,” emphasised the player born in Spain.

Continue to strengthen the foundation

Looking back on the previous performances, the focus is primarily “on the positives.” Jung continued, “Not everything was perfect and not everything was ideal in terms of how the games went, but in those games in Mainz and Hoffenheim, we were able to show what kind of mentality this team possesses.”

Mentality will also be required against upcoming opponents VfL Wolfsburg and, above all, “being efficient with our opportunities.” Jung and his teammates want to build on the Green-Whites’ so-far impressive showings on the road when they next travel to face Wolfsburg, who are still winless at home. “We aim to continue to strengthen and stabilise our foundation. That requires work with attention to detail, which is something we want to tackle together as a team.”

The raucous celebrations seen in Mainz and Hoffenheim should hopefully be on the horizon again in Wolfsburg, as well as for the Jung family in the near future.
