SV Werder Bremen earned their fourth away win of the season on Bundesliga matchday 13. A total of 26,000 spectators were at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion as the Green-Whites ran out 1-0 winners against VfL Bochum thanks to Jens Stage's goal (56').

Line-up and formation: Head coach Ole Werner made two changes to his starting line-up following the 1-0 win over SV Darmstadt 98 in the DFB-Pokal in midweek. Justin Njinmah and Anthony Jung started in place of Marco Grüll and Milos Veljkovic. The latter had to be taken off early on against Darmstadt with a knock, and was therefore left out of the squad.

Starting line-up: Zetterer - Jung, Stark, Stage, Ducksch, Weiser, Njinmah, Lynen, Köhn, Schmid, Friedl

Bench: Backhaus - Deman, Pieper, Bittencourt, Burke, Grüll, Hansen-Aarøen, Malatini, Alvero

Njinmah goes close, Zetterer denies Holtmann

First-half highlights:

22nd minute: The first good chance of the afternoon! Weiser wins an aerial duel against Wittek, as the ball drops to Stage. The Dane plays a clever through ball to Njinmah, who strikes it first-time. His effort flashes just wide of the far post.

26th minute: The hosts go close soon after, as Holtmann finds a bit of space in front of Zetterer. The keeper stands his ground and blocks the ball at close range.

40th minute: VfL send in their fifth corner of the afternoon, leading to a nervy moment for the Green-Whites. Hofmann is able to head the ball into the six-yard box where Miyoshi is denied by Zetterer – the linesman's flag would have soon gone up, however, as he was clearly offside.

45th minute: Njinmah does well to get past Ordets, but his next pass to Ducksch lacks precision. Werder can't afford to keep being wasteful with their chances.

Stage breaks the deadlock

Second-half highlights:

48th minute: Passlack's corner finds Hofmann in front of goal, but Jung is able to deflect his effort out for a corner.

56th minute: Werder lead! Ducksch's corner is headed in by Jens Stage, powering it past goalkeeper Patrick Drewes.

70th minute: Another good chance on the counter for the Green-Whites! Schmid lays the ball off to Ducksch, as he looks to place the ball in at the near post.

82nd minute: Burke dribbles towards the Bochum goal and picks out Grüll. The Austrian is able to make contact with the ball, but his effort is blocked.

90th minute +4: Full time! Werder head home with all three points after their fourth away win of the season!

Summary: As expected, Werder faced a tough opponent in Bochum. The hosts played a physical game and sought to feed off the energy from the hometown crowd. While Bochum managed to generate plenty of threat on goal during the first half, the Green-Whites also failed to capitalise on some good opportunities of their own. Stage then managed to break the deadlock in the second half, as Werder claimed all three points.
