SV Werder Bremen are looking to get back to winning ways as they travel to take on VfL Bochum on Saturday afternoon (7th December, 15:30 CET). While their opponents are currently bottom of the table, the Green-Whites are heading into the game with an appropriate amount of self-confidence and respect for their opponents.

Team news: In addition to Keke Topp, Felix Agu will also be unavailable this weekend. “His injury is proving to be more persistent than we initially thought,” revealed Werner. “He definitely won’t be able to return in time to face Bochum, so we will need to wait. It could be that he misses a couple more games still.” Milos Veljkovic, who was taken off early on against Darmstadt is being evaluated on a day-by-day basis, and could be available this weekend.

Ole Werner on the opponent: “We’re expecting an opponent that will  be physical and aggressive. Bochum will contest a lot of challenges and run hard, while their fans will also create a loud atmosphere — we will need to deal with this and manage to play our game, which isn’t easy to do there. Nevertheless, we’re heading there with confidence and knowing that we want to take home all three points.”

Stage scored five goals from just 13 shots

Previous meetings: Werder’s record against VfL Bochum is overwhelmingly positive. Of their 70 previous meetings in the Bundesliga, the Green-Whites have won 44 times and lost just 10 times. SVW have won six of their last seven matches against VfL, although the last clash between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw in Bochum.

Better off than last term: SV Werder are currently five points better off than at this stage last season. While they had already lost seven times after 12 matchdays in 2023/24, the Green-Whites have suffered just four defeats so far this season.

Clinical Stage: Jens Stage is currently averaging a goal every 116 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has been extremely clinical with his chances so far this season, scoring five goals from 13 shots and amassing an xG of 2.31.
