SV Werder Bremen have made their first signing of the January transfer window, bringing in Issa Kaboré on a six-month deal from Manchester City. Kaboré was on loan at Benfica for the first half of the season and will remain at Werder until the summer. The 40-time Burkina Faso international spoke about his move to Bremen in his first interview as a Green-White.

WERDER.DE: Hi, Issa – welcome to Bremen! You were still on loan at Benfica at the end of last year, now you’re here. How have you been over the last few days?

Issa Kaboré: I’m really, really happy to be here. For me, it wasn’t a hard decision, since Werder Bremen are a good team. I want to have fun playing football with the lads here.

WERDER.DE: Over the past few years you’ve gained a lot of experience playing at different clubs all over the world on loan. What attracts you to Werder as a destination for the next six months?

Issa Kaboré: Werder are a big club that play in a very good league. It’s really important for me and my development.

WERDER.DE: Despite your age, you’ve already made appearances for Burkina Faso – 35 of them alongside Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. Did you speak to him before moving to the Bundesliga?

Issa Kaboré: No, I didn’t speak with him. I’ve watched a lot of his matches, though. That’s how I know that the standard of the Bundesliga is very good.

WERDER.DE: What do you already know about the club and the Bundesliga?

Issa Kaboré: The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. I like how the fans here and at Werder always create a really good atmosphere. The club feels like a family, which is also really important to me. The club has been interested in me for a while now and, because of that, I’ve watched a few matches since the start of the season.

WERDER.DE: You’ve already played in the top tiers of Belgian, French, English and Portuguese football: is adapting to the different styles of play difficult?

Issa Kaboré: No, it’s not difficult. It’s good that I can get experience here.

WERDER.DE: Your time at Werder is due to end in summer. What are your aims before then?

Issa Kaboré: I want to help the team and have fun playing football together.

WERDER.DE: Thanks for speaking to us, Issa.
