Marco Grüll missed two league matches after being forced off early in the cup clash in Paderborn due to sustaining a muscle injury. This enforced break in action came after a good spell of performances from the Austrian winger. “I was unlucky to pick up that thigh injury,” emphasised the 26-year-old, adding, “I want to keep working on myself and will continue to give it my all.”
As was the case for the 4-2 away victory in Wolfsburg, the game in which he netted his first Bundesliga goal, Grüll also made the starting XI for the 2-2 draw with Leverkusen as well as the Paderborn match. He then featured from the off once again during his return to the squad in Frankfurt. The 26-year-old described how he has found life since arriving at Werder and since making his first outings in the Bundesliga. “It was obviously a major adjustment, but I’ve always had to work hard for things in recent years. Due to the high level of the matches and in training, you inherently continue to develop,” said Grüll. “It was really helpful to have people here than I already knew, like Romano, and also to have great teammates who have made it all so easy for me. The bad weather here also makes me feel right at home (laughs).”
