The first international break of the 2024/25 season is over and SV Werder’s international players have returned to Bremen. The Green-Whites had different experiences across their respective two games. Keke Topp only featured once for Germany U21s, travelling back home earlier this week due to a foot problem.

After a 1-1 draw with Slovenia, Austria’s next UEFA Nations League game was against Norway. Ralf Rangnick’s team were beaten 2-1 on matchday 2. Romano Schmid was once again in the starting XI and came off in the 78th minute to be replaced by former Werder man Marko Arnautovic. Marco Grüll was an unused substitute. Austria are in third place with one point in Group 3 of League B after the opening two matchdays.

Norway U21s and Isak Hansen-Aarøen couldn’t follow up their 1-0 win over Latvia with another victory. They were beaten 3-0 by Italy in a European Championship qualifier and Werder’s number 21 played the full game.

Mio Backhaus has returned to Bremen with two wins under his belt. After a narrow 3-2 victory against Romania, Germany U20s defeated Italy 3-0 in a friendly. He was an unused substitute.
